How To Be Yourself In A Relationship

Relationships can be difficult. Meeting someone that’s right for you isn’t something that happens easily. Sometimes this causes us to try and force relationships that just aren’t right for us. It’s important to know that we’re being ourselves with our significant other, and not just trying to force a relationship. Here are some of my tips for knowing how to determine if you’re being yourself in a relationship.

  • Bring your friends around

Spending time with your friends and your significant other is a good way to test if you’re a good fit. Your friends know who you are and can tell if you’re trying to force something.

  • Spend time with his/her friends

If you get to know your significant other you should get to know their friends. If you’re uncomfortable around their friends or feel like you have to pretend to be someone you’re not, then they’re not the one for you.

  • Spend one-on-one time with them.

Yes seeing how you work with groups is good but it’s important to see how you act when you’re alone together. If you feel uncomfortable, or like you always need other people around, something isn’t working for you.

  • Spend time with his/herΒ family

Relationships will progress in one of two ways: you’ll break up, or you’ll end up together forever. Knowing your significant other’s family is important in determining if you’re acting in the relationship. You may not share the exact same values with their family and feel pressured to do so, but you need to be yourself. If you’re okay with voicing your opinions in front of his or her family you’re comfortable in your relationship.

  • Spend time with your family

From my own personal experience this is the best way to determine if you are being yourself. It can be hard to notice subtle changes in your behaviour. By having your loved ones around you have a second hand opinion on your actions, plus your family will help you realize whether or not your significant other is the one for you.

What’s most important is to determine if you’re comfortable. Your gut is the best judge you have, so listen to it.
